Ade Akinbiyi was still not fit enough from his hamstring injury to be risked, but Rob Hopley was on the bench for the first time. An early Bay corner was cleared. there was nice Bay build up, but Steve Connor sliced his shot wide from the edge of the area. Mike Lea captained the Colwyn Bay side again. Josh Ollerenshaw made a fine save to tip a diving header by Luke Parkin over the bar for Leeds' first corner, which was cleared. Tyler Denton's long range shot fizzed just over the Bay bar as Leeds started to settle into their game, but the Bay continued to cope well. Ross Killock went close for Leeds, when he headed against a post from a Leeds free kick and Parkin's follow up shot was brilliantly blocked by Tom Smyth who threw his body in the way to deflect the ball over the bar. Colwyn Bay created a half chance for Gaz Evans, but he fired into the sidenetting from a narrow angle. Danny Taylor made a good interception but conceded another corner which was cleared. Colwyn Bay went on the attack and from Jamie Ellison's lay off, Paul Ennis rifled a shot just over the bar. Half-time came with the score Colwyn Bay 0 Leeds United 0. The Bay had done well with Pascal Chimbonda at the back and Paul Ennis playing more of a central role rather than an outright winger. There was another let off from a corner as Ross Killock headed narrowly wide from two yards out. Cameron Darkwah, Danny Meadowcroft, Jamie Mathews and Rob Hopley came on for Lea, Smyth, Evans and Ellison. Jamie Matthews worked an opening for himself, but his shot was half blocked and the keeper easily gathered. Alex Mowatt next shot straight at Josh Ollerenshaw. Another couple of Leeds efforts were high over the bar. Rob Hopley was winning some good balls in the air and looked sharp. Clever play by Hopley sent Jamie Matthews on a run into the area, but his shot is well blocked by the keeper. At the other end Lewis Walters tried a shot on the turn but it was straight into Josh Ollerenshaw's waiting arms. It had developed into a good end to end game now. Bay then made more changes. Chris Sanna, Frank Sinclair, Ed Moss and Jamie Crowther replaced Ollerenshaw, Taylor, Connor and McKenna. Then a strong run by Rob Hopley ended with a shot from 25 yards that went just wide. Chris Sanna made a flying save, tipping a fierce shot from Luke Parkin over the bar. Ross Killock headeed wide from the ensuing corner. It was 1-0 to the home side after 78 minutes, when a great cross by Jamie Matthews saw Leeds defender Lewie Coyle turn the ball into his own net under pressure from Cameron Darkwah. Paul Ennis fired just wide after strong run by Cameron Darkwah. The Seagulls had played some really good football at times and Cameron Darkwah was unlucky as one inter-passing move saw the ball bounce up and hit his hand as he broke clear. With a minute of normal time left Alex Mowatt brought the scores level when he scored with a sweetly struck free kick past the diving Chris Sanna.
